Meetings

Meetings consist of:

  • Speaking—Members give prepared speeches based on projects from the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Program manuals. Projects cover such topics as speech organization, voice, language, gestures, and persuasion. Each member picks his or her own speech topics. We never tell you what to say.  We do help you learn how to say it effectively.

  • Conducting meetings and performing other meeting functions—All members help run our meetings. You will learn all of the meeting functions and be able to practice your leadership skills at each meeting.

  • Giving impromptu speeches—Members present one-to-two minute impromptu speeches on various topics which they do not know in advance.  Since you don't get to prepare everything you are going to say in life, this is a vital skill to learn.

  • Offering constructive evaluation—Every prepared speaker is assigned an evaluator who expresses his or her opinion about speech strengths and offers suggestions for improvement. You are never graded. Evaluations are only one person's opinion; however, without feedback we just keep repeating what we did before.
